How To Care For Your Car Battery

Car battery maintenance is an easy task and one that should be performed on an annual basis. If you keep your battery properly maintained, you will extend its life and greatly reduce the chance that your battery will fail you at an inopportune time.
Not only Winter season that can be hard on your car battery, Summer is also a difficult time for your car battery. Excessive heat can cause the battery fluid to evaporate and lead to battery failure. Also Excessive heat can reduce battery life at a greater rate than extreme cold weather.

Battery maintenance isn’t difficult to do, so let’s take a look at what you can do to keep your car running.
* Keep your engine well maintained. A well-tuned engine is easier to start and drains less power from the battery.

* Do not let your battery run low or run out of water as the battery’s cells can be ruined. Check the water level every couple of months. It should be just touching the bottom of the refill hole. Refill the battery, when needed, with distilled water.

* Metallic objects should not be placed on top of the battery as this may cause the battery to short. Flames and sparks should be kept at distance. Automotive batteries discharge hydrogen gas, which is easily ignited when, mixed with oxygen.

* If you're concerned about the 'health' of your battery have a battery load test performed. This will help to determine if you need to get a new battery. It's better to find out before it's too late.

* From time to time Disconnect the cables from the battery and clean them with a wire brush and clean off the top of the battery; use a small and clean paint brush to apply the solution where needed.

Please make sure that your battery is, in fact, the sealed type. Check its age when you are purchasing – we are calling for all car batteries to be marked with the date of manufacture, and preferably a "sell-by" date and keep in mind that Batteries have two main ratings: Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) and Reserve Capacity (RC). When replacing your battery make sure you buy a battery with at least the same CCA and RC ratings as the original battery. The ratings can be found in your owner’s manual and/or on the side of the battery.

Hai....Imagine, you are shopping for a used car. You enter the dealership and see that nice-looking car. You love it from a first sight. Meanwhile, the salesperson hanging around and telling you that regular story that, the car was lady driven and the engine works like a clock, and this is only "Today special" - "We need to clean inventory!", and you are so lucky because they are selling it very cheap - "We even lose money on this deal!" and that you have to give a deposit right now or else you will regret about it for the rest of your life! (Sounds familiar so far?)
You decided - "deal!" - shaking hands, you're happy, salesperson is happy. Finally, you got your new wheels.

Few weeks later you notice blue smoke when you're starting the car in the morning. Few months later you discover that there is no oil left in the engine and finally got your car towed to the garage. "The engine is gone - has to be rebuilt" they diagnose.In fact it's quite common scenario.

However, it's always good idea to have the vehicle inspected by a specialist prior purchase. This is what I'd recommend to any used car buyer.

- Don't buy a car if you see a smoke from exhaust pipe - only the water steam and water condensate dripping from the tail pipe is OK.
- Don't buy a car if engine knocks or works too noisy.
- Don't buy high-mileage cars. I'd recommend to avoid cars with more than 145,000 - 150,000 miles (230,000 - 240,000km)
- Don't buy cars that have some engine problems even if it seems to be easy to repair
- Do hire someone knowledgeable to have a vehicle inspected before you buy it.

Follow these tips to help ensure a smooth sales process:

Decide how you want to sell your car. These days there are many ways to sell your car. First, you can decide either to trade it into the dealership or to sell it yourself. While selling it to the dealership can be more convenient, you can usually expect to sell it for at least a couple thousand dollars more if you sell it yourself. This article will discuss this option.
When you have made the decision to sell your car yourself, think about the market. Is your car a sports car and/or convertible? If so, these type of cars usually sell best in the summer, and often to people in higher economic categories. Is your car a family car? If so, market specifically to parents. Where do you market it? Well this leads us to our next category…

Decide where and how you want to advertise, and determine a selling price. You can advertise in the classifieds, online, and/or simply with a well placed, readable for sale sign in your car (don’t forget to make the phone number large and legible). Again, think about your market and where they are most likely to view your advertisement. Make sure you are prepared to field offers from the moment you put the car on the market.
To determine a price, visit sites like kbb.com (Kelley Blue Book) or look in the classifieds for similar cars of a comparable age and condition. If you want to sell quickly, undercut those prices a bit. If you’re open to negotiation, determine a minimum offer you would accept, and don’t go under it.
